Faces/Spaces In these artworks I worked predominantly with the face to explore individuality, space between people, and surrounding space. The art is layered to increase the sense of depth provided by the carved glass. I left a clear line along some of the faces to suggest a path or road. We connect with others along our individual paths. Viewers can see themselves there. The structures which hold the faces were built as if they were individual homes, rather than frames. I planned each structure early in the process as part of the work. The colorless radiance of etched glass promotes our shared humanity. Color is used to explore emotion and perception or to work with mood through Led lighting. The works evolved from one face, to two faces looking at each other. The line which was originally a path became the shape between people. That space between people took on more importance.
